Emerald Bay & Vikingsholm

Spend the day relaxing at Emerald Bay Beach – a National Natural Landmark with 360 degree views that encompass Emerald Bay, Fannette Island, Eagle Falls and Vikingsholm Castle. Located on Hwy 89 between Tahoe City and South Lake Tahoe this is one of the most photographed spots in the world.  The highway is hundreds of feet above the lake and offers spectacular views of Emerald Bay, a three-mile long appendage of Lake Tahoe.  Fanette Island, at the center of the bay, has a tiny stone teahouse on its peak. Vikingsholm, a 1929 38-room reproduction of Scandinavian architecture is a 1.5 miles hike down to the shores of Bay.  It is available for public tours between May 27-September 30, 2017. The 30 minute tours are conducted by the  experienced and knowledgable guides of the Sierra State Parks Foundation.
